The Netherborne
Some powers are meant to be used.
Others were never meant to be touched.
Among the Arcane Order, no one walks a more dangerous path than The Netherborne. He is not simply connected to the Veil—he is connected to what lies beyond it. Not the boundary… but the darkness behind it.
And it knows him.
His transformation did not come from a breach—it came from crossing one. Whether by choice or by circumstance, even he no longer fully remembers. What is known is this: he went beyond the Veil… and returned.
But not alone.
Something came back with him.
The power he wields is unlike anything the others possess—void energy, raw and consuming. It does not stabilize, restore, or even destroy in a conventional sense. It unravels. Matter, energy, even the fabric of reality itself can be stripped apart under his control, reduced to nothingness.
It is the same force that threatens to consume the world.
That is why he is both feared—and necessary.
The Netherborne understands the enemy in a way no one else can. He can sense disturbances before they fully form, track entities that exist partially outside reality, and interact with forces that would overwhelm or corrupt anyone else. When something emerges that cannot be contained, reasoned with, or destroyed by conventional means…
He is the one they turn to.
But his power comes with a constant risk.
The connection he carries is not one-sided. The more he uses his abilities, the stronger the pull from beyond becomes. It is not just energy—it is awareness. Something on the other side is watching through him, learning, adapting.
Waiting.
Within the Arcane Order, he stands apart. Not fully trusted. Not fully understood. The others rely on him, but they also know the truth: if he ever loses control, he would not become their greatest threat—
He would become something far worse.
And he knows it too.
That is why he fights harder than any of them. Not just against what lies beyond the Veil, but against the part of himself that is already connected to it.
As the fractures grow and the boundary weakens, the pull on him intensifies. The line between control and surrender grows thinner with every encounter.
Because the greatest danger the Arcane Order faces…
Is not what is coming through the Veil.
It is what has already crossed it.
And chose to stay.
